Sophomore quarterback Darian Durant was 25 of 40 for 417 yards and five touchdowns in the 38-35 win over Arizona State.

Durant set or tied several school records in the victory. He established the UNC single-game record for most passing yards (417) and total offense (426) and tied the school record with five TD passes. Durant broke Chris Keldorf's single-game record for passing yards by two yards. Keldorf, who was at the Arizona State game, had 415 yards passing in a win over TCU in 1997. Durant's 426 total yards of offense (417 passing, nine rushing) broke Mark Maye's mark of 420 yards vs. Georgia Tech in 1987.

The last time a Carolina player completed 25 passes was 26 by Oscar Davenport at Georgia Tech in 1997. The last time a Carolina player attempted 40 passes was 46 by Oscar Davenport in the same game.

Although he has started just seven games, Durant is already ranked fifth in UNC history with 27 touchdown passes, ninth in passing yards and 11th in total offense.

Wide receiver Chesley Borders set a school record with four touchdown receptions against the Sun Devils. The previous record of three was accomplished seven times. The last time a Tar Heel caught three touchdown passes in a game was L.C. Stevens vs. Maryland in 1996. Borders caught touchdown passes of 11, 31, 28 and 74 yards. He finished the evening with nine catches for 192 yards, both career bests. The 192 yards is the third-best single-game receiving game in UNC history.

The last time a Carolina player scored four touchdowns in a game was Leon Johnson vs. NC State in 1996 (three rushing, one punt return).

Carolina had four scoring drives of 80 yards-or-more, including drives of 82, 90, 80 and 86 yards. Carolina had its three longest scoring drives of the season against the Sun Devils.

This is the first time Carolina has won two non-conference road games in the same season since 1996 (Syracuse and Houston).

The 74-yard game-winning touchdown pass from Darian Durant to Chesley Borders was Carolina's longest pass play this season. It is the 15th-longest pass play in school history.

Carolina's defense allowed a school record 657 yards of offense to ASU. The Sun Devils had 474 yards passing and 183 yards rushing.

ASU quarterback Andrew Walter was 27 of 45 for 474 yards. The 474 yards are the second-most ever allowed by Carolina. Walter, who also rushed for five yards, had 479 yards of total offense, the most-ever by a Carolina opponent. The last time a UNC opponent threw for 400 yards was Maryland's Scott Milanovich who had 405 passing yards in 1993.
