North Carolina coach Anson Dorrance
"The NCAA Tournament is all about advancing and trying to advance without
injuries. We scored some goals and got to play our roster. The thing that
is hard these days about having a two-day weekend after the ACC weekend is
that if you advance in all the games in the conference tournament and in the
first two rounds of the NCAA, you will have played five games in the last 11
days. That's exhausting. Soccer wasn't designed to play a game every other
day but that's what winds up happening.
"We're thrilled to have advanced to the second round, and we're excited that everyone got to play. I'm real pleased right now."
(On Radford):
"To Radford's credit, they never quit. They scored a goal
because they didn't quit. And I certainly respect their kids that continued to play and their coaching staff who obviously had a great year to get in
the NCAA Tournament."
North Carolina junior midfielder Elizabeth Ball
(On the team's focus for the tournament):
"I think that there is a huge emphasis to send our seniors out winners. Now everyone on the team is
placing a huge focus on playing as hard as we can."
North Carolina sophomore midfielder Sophie Gervais
(On not letting up when dominating the game):
It's hard going into a game knowing a team doesn't have the best record, but I think we always get up
for every opponent. We did have an issue in the first half with our passion
but in the second half we came out and proved that we were the better team
and we wanted to be out there."
Radford coach Ben Sohrabi
"I was really proud of our girls. UNC is a very athletic team, a very
technical and tactical team. They played great soccer. Obviously we played
a more defensive type game tonight and I thought we did a good job. Early
on we had a few mistakes and when you make mistakes against Carolina they're
going to make you pay for it.
"We got everybody in the game. That's what it's all about. You want to get as far as you can in the national tournament but it's all about the girls being here and getting to play."
"A reporter called me this week and said, 'Do you understand what Carolina soccer is all about?' And he told me a lot about Carolina soccer and it was very impressive. But let me tell you a little about Radford soccer. Our goals are a little different. We did have a great season. We are very happy and I'm very proud of all our girls. We tried our hardest we worked hard and gave it our all."
Radford senior forward Jevne Reid
(On making the tournament in her final year):
"How many people can say they
made it to the NCAA and how many can say they made it and got to play
against UNC? After we won our conference championship we'd had a dream
season."
(On whether it's intimidating to play against UNC):
"The name is what was
intimidating. Once we got here and were warming up it just seemed like
another team. Yes, it was UNC but you have to have enough confidence in
yourself to know that you're just playing another team. When we saw the
brackets up on ESPN we were like 'OK, UNC.' That's kind of where the
intimidation comes in. But when we got on the field it was just like we
were playing another team."
