UNC Women's Golf Team in Second Place After Two Rounds at the Pine Needles Invitational

Southern Pines, N.C. - The University of North Carolina is in second place behind co-host school North Carolina State after two rounds of play were completedy today in the Pine Needles Invitational. NC State shot a 25-over-par 593 on the par-71 course. UNC is now three shots back after shooting a 28-over 596. Baylor is in third place at 39-over 607, and Miami is in fourth at 42-over 610.
In the individual race, Tar Heel seniors Abby Spector and Meghan Adams are tied for first place at four-over 146. Adams is playing as an unattached individual, whose score does not count toward UNC's team total. Junior Ashley Prange is one shot back of the lead and tied for third place. Prange shot a 74 and 73 today, putting her at five-over 147. Colby Cobb of NC State is tied for third, mirroring both Prange?s first and second round scores.
NC State's Sarah Bonner and Miami's Tina Miller are tied for fifth place at six-over 148. Miller shot the low round of the day, a four-under 67, in the second round, which put her back in contention after a first round 81.
In addition to Spector and Prange, three other players competed on the UNC team for the tournament. Junior Meaghan Francella is tied for 11th at nine-over 151; freshman Beth Marushak is tied for 13th at 10-over 152; and freshman Josie Shinn is tied for 39th at 18-over 160. Along with Adams, junior Stacy Hilton also is playing as an individual, and she shot a 20-over 162.
The third and final round will be played Tuesday with a double-tee start at 8 a.m. The Pine Needles Invitational, hosted by NC State and Rollins College, is being played on the Pine Needles Golf Course, a par-71, 6,017 yard course.
