CHAPEL HILL -- Matt Crawford, a senior midfielder on the men's soccer team, was named on Thursday to the Verizon Academic All-District III team. Crawford, who was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa last spring and has earned Dean's List and ACC Honor Roll recognition in each of his first three years at UNC, is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Carolina's last Academic All-America was Michael Bucy, a three-time honoree from 1998-2000.
Crawford represented UNC at the 2002 NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference in the summer of 2002. He also is a member of the Student-Athlete Leadership Committee at Carolina and has served as an Athletes Coming Together (ACT) mentor on the UNC campus.
