FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS - North Carolina senior Trystan Menaine saw his run toward the championship of the 2002 Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships come to an end late Friday night as he fell to the tournament's fourth seed, Benedikt Dorsch of Baylor University, 6-4, 7-6 in the quarterfinals.
The tournament, presented by the Dallas Morning News, is being played at the Brookhaven Country Club. Southern Methodist University is the host school.
Meniane, a senior from Martinique, France, advanced further than any other Tar Heel in this prestigious national tournament since Roland Thornqvist won the championship in 1992.
"It was a great match between the two players," said UNC assistant tennis coach Ian Williams. "Trystan had a couple of set points in the second set and played hard. Dorsch is a great player and he might very well win this tournament."
This marks the end of the fall season for Coach Sam Paul's team. UNC will begin spring tournament play in January 2003 and dual match play in February 2003. Carolina is the defending Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament champion.
