Six Tar Heels Are In The Third Round At The Reno Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The University of North Carolina wrestling team has six wrestlers that have qualified for the third round at the Reno Invitational this evening. Sophomores Chris Rodrigues (Marietta, Ga.), Evan Sola (Wernersville, Pa.), freshmen Brian Baglio (York Haven, Pa.) and David Dashiell (Chesapeake, Va.), plus senior Jimmy O'Connor (Woodbine, Md.) and junior Ryan Adams (Rock Hill, N.C.) have all made it to the third round.
Rodrigues began as the three seed in the 125 weight division. He received a bye in the first round and defeated Pittsburgh's James Thornton, 12-3 MD.
Sola, eighth seed, also had a bye in the first round of the 133 pound weight class. He then pinned Princeton's Brian Kirschbaum in 1:50.
Baglio is the sixth seed in the 141 pound weight class and pinned Arizona State's Evan Larkin in 48 seconds to advance to the third round of the tourney.
Dashiell began the heavyweight division unranked and had to win two matches to advance to the third round. He defeated Appalachian State's Jerod Lenderman, 11-4, in the first round and Oklahoma State's Rusty Blackmon (7th seed), 2-0.
O'Connor also was unseeded at 165 pounds. He downed Cal Poly's Brett Schumann, 5-2, and seventh seeded Chris Huntly (Oregon), 7-0, to slip into the third round of the wrestling tournament.
Adams defeated UC-Davis' Jason Parl, 8-4, and defeated Fresno State's Clint Walbeck, 3-2, to jump to the third round.
