Tar Heels Top Rhode Island, 9-1

The University of North Carolina softball team defeated Rhode Island 9-1 Tuesday evening in Miami to give coach Donna Papa the 600th win of her 19-year career as a head coach. Papa is now 600-355-3 overall and the Tar Heels are 11-11 on the season.
Junior outfielder Tiffany Tolleson went 4-for-4 at the plate and scored four runs for the Tar Heels. Quinn Porter, also a junior outfielder, was 2-for-3 with two runs. Senior first baseman Kelly Ramsey led off the sixth inning with her first home run of the season.
Senior Shannon Walsh pitched five innings and earned the win.
The Tar Heels take on Florida International Wednesday at 6 p.m. before traveling to Boca Raton, Fla., for a doubleheader with Florida Atlantic on Thursday.
