UNC Women's Golf Climbs To Fifth Place After Second Round Of ACCs

CLEMMONS, N.C. - After shooting eight-under par, Duke turned in a 284-team score for the second day to lead going into the final round of the 14th annual 2002 Women's Golf Championship at Salem Glen Country Club. After fighting off ominous skies to finish out the second round of women's golf, freshman Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh shot the lowest score of 70 for the day. Virada Nirapathpongporn and Kristina Engstrom of Duke are tied for first place (141) and Candy Hannemann sits in third shooting 143 for the tournament.
Wake Forest moved into second place today shooting a team score of 298. Nuria Clau secured fourth place after shooting even par for both rounds (144). Deborah Means moved up to tie for eighth place (149). NC State is four strokes behind Wake shooting 23-over par. For the Wolfpack, Malin Claesson and Colby Cobb are in the four-way tie for eighth place (149).
Florida State maintained its fourth place standing after round two. Kristin Tumulis shot even par to lead the Seminoles tied for fifth place (147). Alison Zimmer turned in a 77 to finish the second round tied for eighth place. North Carolina moves up a notch to fifth place with leaders Ashley Prange in a two- way tie for 12th place (150) and Meghan Adams in 17th place shooting three-over par (152).
Maryland dropped one spot to round out the field at sixth place. The Terrapins have shot a team score of 622 for the tournament. Marie Harper is in 19th place shooting four-over par today (154). Three Terps are tied for 23rd place shooting a 157 two-day score.
The final round of action will begin tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. Maryland, North Carolina and Florida State will tee off at 8:30 a.m. and NC State, Wake Forest and Duke will tee off at 9:20 a.m.
