Davis' Season Ends With Knee Injury

Starting defensive tackle Eric Davis' season came to an end in Carolina's season-opening loss to Miami (Ohio). Davis tore his left ACL in the second half and did not return. Davis, a fifth-year senior from Rockingham, N.C., was making his first career start against the RedHawks. Carolina is already thin along the defensive line. The Tar Heels have to replace three starters from last season and Will Chapman has moved from tackle to end. Davis will most likely be replaced in the starting lineup by either Donti Coats or Carl Smalls. Head Coach John Bunting indicated that freshman Mickey Rice and/or sophomore walk-on Tony Pigford could see more action.
