Chapel Hill, N.C. ---- The attendance at this week's North Carolina vs. Texas football game could approach the Kenan Stadium record-crowd of 62,000 that came to the 1997 Florida State game.
An extra 1,150 bleacher seats have been installed behind the East end zone and the game has been sold out for weeks. Including the press and staff members working the game, the attendance should top 60,000. It would be the third game at Kenan Stadium with over 60,000, including the 1997 and 1999 Florida State game. Temporary bleachers were installed for both of those games.
"It is exciting to have these opportunities for our players and fans in Chapel Hill against this type of team," said head coach John Bunting. "I know that the players love to play against teams with traditions such as these."
Approximately 12,000 student tickets have been distributed for the Texas game.
