Saturday's attendance was 60,500, the second largest crowd in Kenan Stadium history. The largest crowd ever at Kenan Stadium was 62,000 for the Florida State-North Carolina game in 1997.

At one point in the game, the total yardage was 291-91 in favor of Texas, but the Tar Heels closed that gap to 346-322 at the end of the third quarter. Texas finished the game with 569 total yards of offense, while Carolina had 343 yards.

The Tar Heels rushed for a season-high 173 yards, including 84 by Jacque Lewis and 74 by Darian Durant.

Sam Aiken's 15-yard touchdown catch was the 13th of his career and his second of the season.

Darian Durant rushed for a career-high 74 yards. His previous high was 46 yards last year at NC State.

Darian Durant's 27-yard touchdown run late in the first half was the longest run of his career and his third career rushing TD. His previous long run was 22 yards in the season-opener against Miami (Ohio).

Jacque Lewis carried the ball a career-high 20 times for a season-high 84 yards, the most by a Tar Heel this season. Lewis had 68 yards last week against Syracuse.

With 208 yards on Saturday, Texas tailback Cedric Benson became the first opposing player to rush for more than 200 yards against Carolina since Maryland's Willie Joyner had 240 yards in 1982. It is only the seventh time in UNC history an opposing player has rushed for 200 yards against Carolina.

Chris Simms was 14-for-30 for 298 yards and four touchdowns. The last time the Tar Heels allowed four touchdown passes by one player was in 2000 when Willie Simmons had four TD passes.
