Chapel Hill, N.C. ---- North Carolina place-kicker Dan Orner has been awarded a scholarship for the 2002 season, head coach John Bunting announced today.
"That's based on the way he works every day in practice and the way he's kicking the ball," said Bunting. "We're real pleased for Danny."
Orner has made 5 of 6 field goal attempts this season and all 10 point after attempts. His only miss was a 49-yarder against Texas. Orner tied an NCAA record with three field goals of at least 50 yards at Syracuse. He made successive field goals of 52, 51 and 55 yards in the 30-22 win.
