Women's Golf Finishes Seventh at ACC/SEC Challenge

DESTIN, Fla. -- The University of North Carolina women's golf team finished seventh at the Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge on Sunday. The Tar Heels shot a team score of 300 in the third and final round for a three-day total of 909.
Auburn University came from behind to take first in team standings, posting a team 296 in the final round to defeat defending national champion Duke by six strokes, 887 to 893. The University of Florida, the defending champion of the event, fired a team 297 on Sunday to finish third with a 894 total. Florida State ended up in fourth with a 903 total, while NC State and Mississippi State closed out the top five with totals of 904. The Southeastern Conference won the Challenge for the third consecutive year, defeating the ACC by 10 strokes in the closest battle in the short history of the event.
Auburn's Diana Ramage took the individual crown, shooting a two-over-par 73 in the final round for a three-day total of 214. Furman's Brandi Jackson and Duke's Elizabeth Janangelo ended up in a tie for second, three behind Ramage. Ashley Prange of UNC finished tied for fourth with Wake Forest's Nuria Clau and Florida's Jeanne Cho. The trio finished at 218, four behind the leader.
Carolina's Prange shot a four-under 67 in Sunday's final round, the lowest score of any competitor in the field, and one of only two 67's shot in the tournament (Janangelo, Duke). UNC's junior transfer Meaghan Francella shot a one-under 70 to move into a tie for 12th with a 223 total. Tar Heel seniors Meghan Adams and Abby Spector each finished tied for 43rd at 234; Adams posted a 78 Sunday, while Spector shot 85. Teammate Stacy Hilton carded an 86 Sunday and tied for 60th with 249 total.
The 54-hole event was played at the Sandestin Golf Resort, a par 71, 5,937-yard course.
