Brown Leads Tar Heels Over Seminoles, 74-53

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - North Carolina guard Coretta Brown scored 28 points Sunday afternoon to lead the 10th-ranked Tar Heels to a 74-53 win at Florida State. The victory extended North Carolina's winning streak to 11.
rown, a senior, scored nine points in a 17-3 run late in the first half that put the Tar Heels (14-1, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) up 33-27 at the break. She also started and capped a 20-4 spurt to open the second half with a pair of 3-pointers.
"It can sometimes take a while to see who is ready to play," North Carolina coach Sylvia Hatchell said. "But Coretta was ready today."
rown, from nearby Statesboro, Ga., played in front of a large contingent of family and friends and tied her career high for points. She also scored 28 against Harvard in the first round of the NCAA tournament last year.
rown was 9-of-15 from the floor. She hit five 3-pointers and got most of her remaining points off strong drives to the basket - even after picking up a third foul early in the second half.
"They tried to come at me, but Coach Hatchell did a good job of switching up on defense to keep me on the floor," Brown said.
The Seminoles (10-4, 2-1) were hurt by foul trouble. Starters Katelyn Vujas, Trinetta Morre, LaQuinta Neely and Angela Sutton were on the bench for long stretches in the second half as the Tar Heels pulled away.
"The way we closed out the first half held over to the second half and having that foul trouble with the players that attack the most, we just had a hard time gaining any momentum back," Florida State coach Sue Semrau said.
Tasheika Morris led the Seminoles with 14 points and was the only Florida State player in double figures.
Nikita Bell had 12 points for the Tar Heels, who had a 38-24 rebounding advantage that included 16 offensive boards.
