Ronnie McGill Named Carolina Waterscapes Student-Athlete of the Week

CHAPEL HILL - Freshman tailback Ronnie McGill rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown in the Tar Heels' win over East Carolina and is the Carolina Waterscapres Student-Athlete of the Week for October 6-12, 2003.

McGill rushed 13 times for 67 yards and scored a touchdown in Carolina's 28-17 victory over East Carolina. McGill gained 44 of his 67 yards on Carolina's final scoring drive in the fourth quarter which consumed 5:55 on the clock. On that drive, McGill rushed six consecutive times and converted two key third downs, including a 23-yard gain on third-and-three from the ECU 30-yard line and a 1-yard touchdown carry on third and goal. McGill led Carolina's 189-yard rushing attack. It was the most rushing yards for the Tar Heels since the Duke game in 2001.

Watson had a goal and two assists in Carolina's 5-0 win over Mercer on Friday. He was one of seven different Tar Heels to score in a pair of wins at the adidas/Spartan Classic. Watson is second on the team with four goals and leads the squad with five assists.

Pyles led UNC to a 3-0 victory at Virginia on Oct. 7, as she had her sixth double-double of the season. Pyles totaled 20 kills and 14 digs in the Tar Heels victory. Pyles also led UNC in kills with nine, in a loss to Maryland on Oct. 12.

Dawson totaled four goals last week as UNC picked up a pair of 6-0 road wins. At Appalachian State on Friday, Dawson scored twice. She added two more on Sunday as UNC beat No. 18 Virginia for an ACC win. Dawson leads the team with 17 goals and is tied for the team lead in points with 35.
WOMEN'S SOCCER

White scored twice to power No. 1 North Carolina to a 4-1 victory over NC State on October 10. The sophomore midfielder entered the match with only four career goals to her credit but she converted on both of her shots in the match to score second-half goals that helped UNC improve to 14-0 overall and 3-0 in the ACC.
