Freshman Ronnie McGill ran for 46 yards and two scores against Arizona State. With the pair of touchdowns, he became the first Tar Heel with two rushing touchdowns in the same game since Darian Durant at Clemson in 2001.
With first quarter touchdowns, Ronnie McGill and Chad Scott both scored on the ground for the second consecutive game. Carolina has five rushing touchdowns from its running backs in the last two games after posting zero in its first four games.
With 23 passing attempts today, junior quarterback Darian Durant became Carolina's all-time leader in the category. He is already the Tar Heels' career leader in touchdown passes, pass completions and passing yards. Ronald Curry held the previous mark for passing attempts with 695.
Darian Durant's fourth quarter touchdown pass to Jacque Lewis was his 10th this season. He becomes the first Carolina quarterback to throw for at least 10 scores in three consecutive seasons.
With 10.5 tackles, freshman linebacker Larry Edwards led the Tar Heels in tackles for the third consecutive game. After making his first career start against Virginia, Edwards has led the team in hits in each of his three starts.
Jonas Seawright's blocked extra point in the first quarter was his second this season. He also blocked a point after attempt against Florida State in the opening game of the season.
