Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina men's golf coach John Inman announces the signing of two of the state's top players, Barden Berry from Kinston and Ryan Holler from Morehead City.
erry, a senior at Arendell Parrott Academy, won the NCISAA (N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association) Championship in 2002. He had an outstanding summer winning the North Carolina Junior Championship for the second consecutive year while also capturing the Joe Cheves Junior Invitational in Morganton, N.C. He posted a fifth-place finish at the Carolinas Junior and a sixth-place finish at the Bobby Chapman.
"Barden is an outstanding young man and we are very happy that he has chosen to play his college golf here in Chapel Hill," says Inman. "Not only is he a great player, but he is number one in his high school class and I know his academic excellence will allow him to spend more time at the golf course honing his game."
Holler, a senior at West Carteret High School, was selected an all-conference performer and his team's most valuable player the last three years - 2000-01, 2001-02 and 2002-03. He finished in a tie for first place, eventually losing in a playoff, at the AJGA Ping Junior at the Peninsula Club in Cornelius, N.C., last summer.
"We are very pleased that Ryan will be joining us next fall," says Inman. "Ryan has a great golf swing and has the ability to overpower any golf course he plays. He has had some injuries that have held him back a little bit, but he is playing a strong national schedule that will help him when he arrives on campus next August."
