Carolina's Women's Golf Team Inks Two Recruits

Chapel Hill, N.C. - North Carolina women's golf coach Sally Austin announces the signing of two of the nation's top players, Laura Caniff from Russell, Ky., and Ann Laney from Charlotte, N.C.
"We are excited about Laura and Ann joining our team next fall," says Austin. "Both had outstanding junior careers and both girls excel in the classroom. We feel they will be a great addition to our team and fit in well as Carolina student-athletes."
Caniff, a four-year letterwinner at Russell High School, has played in 16 AJGA (American Junior Golf Association) events and posted three top-five and eight top-10 finishes. She won five national tournaments in 2001. Caniff carded 20 wins in Kentucky state junior tours, The Baker-Geary Dunne Tour and The Pepsi Junior Golf Tour. She captured four regional championships, three Eastern Kentucky Conference Championships and five high school tournament titles. Caniff was a four-time, all-state first team member and a four-time academic all-state selection.
Laney, a 2003 Polo Junior Golf All-America Honorable Mention, captured two tournament championships last summer. She won the 2003 North and South Junior Championship and the Independent Insurance Agent Junior Classic. She was runner-up at the AJGA Club Corporation Players Championship. Laney won the 2001 Carolina Junior Girls Match Play Championship and was a two-time Carmel Country Club Junior Champion, 2001 and 2002. She was also runner-up of the 2001 Mid Pines Junior Invitational. She played her high school golf at Myers Park High School in Charlotte.
