Tar Heels To Host Final Regular Season Meet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--The North Carolina gymnastics team will compete in its third and final 2003 home meet at 1 p.m. Saturday at Carmichael Auditorium. The meet will take place exactly one week before the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship, to be held Sat., March 29, at the University of New Hampshire.
Carolina enters the meet with a 21-4 record, 5-1 in the EAGL, coming off a third place finish at No. 1 UCLA Sun., March 16. The team is 5-0 at home so far this season with wins over James Madison, Minnesota, Towson and twice over William & Mary.
Rutgers will come into the meet on Saturday with a 14-13 record, 0-6 in the EAGL , after a loss in its last meet to Maryland on Sat., March 15.
In the latest collegiate gymnastics rankings that came out March 17, Carolina was in the Top 25 (24th) for the first time this season. The Tar Heels currently lead the EAGL and are ranked third in the NCAA Southeast Region with a Regional Qualifying Score of 195.440.
The Scarlet Knights, in eighth place in the EAGL, are fifth in the Northeast Region with a Regional Qualifying Score of 193.175.
Carolina and Rutgers last met in the Tar Heels' first appearance of the season, at the George Washington Invitational on Jan. 16. Carolina won the seven-team meet with a score of 192.300 while Rutgers finished third with a 189.100.
