Tar Heels Handle Towson, 9-4

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina (17-7) defeated Towson (9-7), 9-4 on Tuesday evening at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels overcame four errors in the game and put 14 hits on the board to pick up their third consecutive victory.
The Tar Heels jumped out of the gate with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. An RBI groundout by Jeremy Cleveland scored Greg Mangum, and with two outs, Ryan Blake drove in Chad Prosser with a single to right field.
Chris Iannetta led the Tar Heels with a .471 batting average last week and continued his hot hitting in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Iannetta lined a home run over the right field wall, his fourth of the season. Blair Waggett, Prosser and Cleveland all doubled in the inning, giving Carolina a 5-0 lead after two innings.
The Tigers cut into Carolina's lead with three runs in the top of the fifth. Two errors by the Tar Heels and RBIs by Shane Justis, Mike Costello, Adam Heffron and Brian McKenna made the score 5-4.
Carolina increased its lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Tar Heels sent nine batters to the plate in the inning and had four hits, highlighted by Sean Farrell's RBI single to left. Blake also recorded an RBI with a bases loaded walk, and Justin Webb's sacrifice fly gave UNC a five-run lead.
The Tar Heels and Tigers meet again on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Carolina then heads to Tallahassee for a three game series against the Florida State Seminoles this weekend.
