Tar Heels Set For Senior Day Against UNC Greensboro

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina softball team will play its final home games Wednesday, April 23 at the UNC Softball Complex beginning at 4 p.m. The Tar Heels will honor the four seniors on Senior Day; #12 Lauren Parker, #15 Quinn Porter, #3 Anna Tharrington and #1 Tiffany Tolleson. UNC will host UNC Greensboro for the non-conference doubleheader.
The Tar Heels are one of the hottest teams in the country splitting last weekend with No. 9 Georgia and are winners of 26 of their last 32 contests. UNCG enters the games with a 31-11 record and have won 8-of-11 heading into tomorrow.
Carolina continues to pound the ball with 37 team home runs on the season. The Tar Heels need three more to break the school record of 39. UNC is hitting .279 as a team and are holding its opponents to a low .184 average. The Tar Heels are coming off a second place finish at the Georgia Tournament where the Tar Heels dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to the ninth-ranked Bulldogs. UNC downed Georgia earlier in the tournament 2-1 in eight innings on a walk-off bomb by Porter.
Here's a look at the four seniors:
#12 Lauren Parker ... Parker is a three-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels under head coach Donna Papa ... She has missed her entire senior season due to an arm injury ... The Charlotte, N.C., native has played in 126 games and started in 15 of them ... In 48 at bats, she has 13 hits, 30 runs scored and eight stolen bases ... Parker has a 1.000 fielding percentage in her career at Carolina ... She will graduate in the Fall of 2003 with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports science ... Her parents are Janet and Tony Parker.
#15 Quinn Porter ... Porter is a four-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels ... She is batting .249 this season and has a slugging percentage of .414 ... The Wesley Chapel, Fla., native has 42 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, five home runs and 29 RBIs this season in 169 at bats ... Porter hit a walk-off bomb against #9 Georgia this past weekend to give the Tar Heels their first win over a Top 10 opponent this season ... She is batting .272 in her career and is a two-time All-ACC performer ... Porter ranks second all-time in school history in games started, third in at bats, sixth in games played, seventh in RBIs and 10th in doubles and home runs ... She will graduate in the Spring of 2003 with a double major in psychology and American studies ... Her parents are Don and Lajuana Porter.
#3 Anna Tharrington ... Tharrington is a four-year letterwinner for the Tar Heels ... She has started in 29 games this season and has 14 hits, three doubles, one home run and five RBIs in 65 at bats ... The Rocky Mount, N.C., native recently threw out the nation's top runner Nicole Barber twice this past weekend ... She earned All-Tournament Honors at the Tar Heel Invitational after batting .500 for the weekend ... Tharrington has played in 64 games for Carolina, starting in 35 of them ... She has 21 hits, five doubles, two home runs and 13 RBIs in 93 at bats in her career at UNC ... She has been on the Dean's List and the Academic All-ACC team for all three seasons ... Tharrington will graduate this May with a bachelor's degree in political science ... Her parents are Don and Sandie Tharrington.
#1 Tiffany Tolleson ... Tolleson is a two-year letterwinner at North Carolina ... She has led the Tar Heels since day one in batting average and is currently leading the team with a .442 batting average ... She leads the ACC in hits, stolen bases and batting average ... The Winter Haven, Fla., native currently has187 career stolen bases, 10 away from breaking the NCAA Record ... In her career at UNC. Tolleson is hitting .418 which is tops in school history ... She broke four school records last season in hits, stolen bases, runs scored and at bats en route to being named third team All-American ... Named to the All-ACC team in 2002 ... Tolleson will graduate in the December of 2003 with a degree in biochemistry ... Her parents are Brenda and Jerry Smith and Gary Tolleson.
