RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State (35-9, 12-4 ACC) defeated North Carolina (32-13 10-6 ACC), 3-2 on Friday evening at Doak Field. In a game dominated by strong pitching, The Tar Heels managed eight hits but left 11 runners on base in the game. Michael Rogers pitched seven innings for the Wolfpack and gave up just two runs while striking out eight to earn his tenth victory of the season. Daniel Moore was the hard luck loser for Carolina. Moore threw 6.1 innings and gave up just five hits but walked six in suffering his first loss of the season.

NC State added to its lead in the bottom of the third. Jeremy Dutton was on first after singling to lead off the inning when Morton blasted his 15th home run of the season over the wall in left center field, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Wolfpack.
The Tar Heels got back in the game with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Chris Iannetta singled to lead off the inning and after NC State starter Michael Rogers struck out the next two batters, Ryan Blake also singled. After a walk to Wes Moyer, Greg Mangum ripped a two-run single into left field, scoring Iannetta and Blake. Carolina loaded the bases again with two outs after a ground ball single by Chad Prosser but Rogers struck out Jeremy Cleveland to end the threat.
NC State's freshman closer, Joey Devine finished the game for the Wolfpack, pitching the last two innings without allowing a baserunner and picking up his 12th save.
