FINISHED STRONG AGAINST VIRGINIA
➤ The Tar Heels opened ACC play over the weekend at home against Virginia, dropping the first two games before battling back for a 12th inning marathon win in the series finale.Â
➤ Friday's contest was all Hoo's, winning 13-3 in seven innings to hand Carolina its first ever home run-rule.
➤ The opener of the doubleheader on Saturday was more of a fight, but ultimately ended with Virginia pulling away for a 9-2 win. Gavin Gallaher and Owen Hull got some late momentum back for the Heels with solo home runs to get a spark going before the series finale. It was Hull's first long ball of the season.Â
➤ The weekend's final game was entertainment enough for the whole series. The 12 inning marathon had five lead changes with Carolina needing game tying runs in both the 9th and 12th just to keep the game alive.Â
➤ True freshmen were the heroes of the day. Righty Caden Glauber logged career highs in innings pitched (5.1) and strikeouts (8) to quiet the rolling Virginia offense long enough for UNC to tie the game back up. Then it was Tyler Howe who hit a solo shot to tie the game in the 9th before smoking a grounder past a five-man infield in the bottom of the 12th to walk-off the game.Â
NO PLACE LIKE THE BOSH
➤ The Tar Heels have won 77.1 percent of their home games under Scott Forbes, going 153-45-1.
➤ The 2025 squad racked up a 29-9 (.763) home record, winning five of seven series.Â
➤ The Tar Heels boasted a 37-3 record at Boshamer Stadium in 2024, winning a program record 92.5 percent of its games at home.
➤ It was the 13th time in program history the Tar Heels won 30 or more home games.
➤ Originally opened in 1972 before reopening in 2009 after a $26 million renovation, the Bosh has been the site for many magical memories. Since '09, the Heels have hosted 10 regionals and eight supers in their palace affectionately referred to as the "Augusta National of College Baseball."Â
NON-CON COMBAT
➤ The Heels have compiled a 113-35-1 (.762) record in games against non-ACC opponents under Forbes. This team is currently 12-1-1 out of conference.Â
➤ Last season, they were 25-4 against out of conference foes. The 2024 team was 24-6.
➤ Since 2020, UNC has won (or split) 13 of its 14 three-game non-conference weekend series with a 33-7-1 mark in that span.
