Minneapolis, MN - Twenty-fifth ranked Oklahoma State defeated North Carolina 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Regional on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Oklahoma State (17-4) advances to play Minnesota in Sunday's regional championship match, while UNC concludes its season at 11-12.
Oklahoma State captured the momentum from the outset by winning the doubles point at the number one and three positions. Every singles match was closely contested. Rains moved into the area forcing the match indoors after the first hour of singles play.
UNC freshman Brad Pomeroy started the first dual match of his career in singles. Pomeroy faced a 4-2 deficit in the first set tiebreak when play was suspended. When the match resumed indoors, Pomeroy rallied to win the first set tiebreak 10-8.
Oklahoma State's four losses this season were against top 20 teams. The Cowboys were finalists at the Big 12 Tournament, where they lost to 3rd-ranked Baylor.
Carolina's Trystan Meniane and Nicholas Monroe will participate in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships beginning May 21 in Athens, Ga.
