Tar Heels Sign Top Junior Tennis Player

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The University of North Carolina has announced the signing of Leonard Gullan to a National Letter of Intent for the 2003-2004 school year.
"We're really excited to have this young man," Head Coach Sam Paul. "He is motivated academically and athletically to the be the best he can be. Leonard Gullan had a 4.0 GPA and led his team (Saddlebrook Academy) to their first ever state championship."
Gullan was the number three ranked tennis player in South Africa in 2002. He served as captain of the Saddlebrook Tennis Team in Wesley Chapel Fla., leading his team to the state championship in 2002 and a second place finish in 2001. Individually, Gullan was the runner-up in the state tournament in both singles and doubles.
Gullan had numerous academic accolades. He was named Who's Who of American high school students in 2002 for demonstration of academic excellence, community leadership and positive performance. Gullan was also inducted into the National Honor Society of secondary schools recognizing leadership, service and character.
