MTEN Set To Open NCAA Play Vs. Michigan State Friday
April 30, 2026 | Men's Tennis
The University of North Carolina men's tennis team will begin play in the 2026 NCAA Tournament on Friday at 11 a.m. when it faces Big Ten champion Michigan State in Columbia, S.C.
A live stream of Friday's match is available here, and live scoring also will be available.
The winner will face the winner of Friday's match between host and 13th-seeded South Carolina (16-8) and Richmond (15-8) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Tar Heels have earned a bid in 29 of the 31 NCAA Tournaments held during head coach Sam Paul's 32-year tenure in Chapel Hill (there was no tournament in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
"I'm so proud of this group for their resiliency and the way they stuck together," Paul says. "We lost two starters in singles and doubles by early February, but we kept fighting and persevered through some tough adversity. Now we're healthy and excited to play in this NCAA Tournament."
UNC has a 15-11 record this season and is ranked No. 41 in this week's Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The Tar Heels won a pair of matches in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship to advance to the quarterfinal round.Â
The 16th-ranked Spartans are 18-8 and have won five consecutive matches, including winning the Big Ten title with wins over Indiana, UCLA and Ohio State last weekend in Ojai, Calif.
