Salt Lake City ------ University of North Carolina Assistant Athletic Director Jeff Connors has been honored as a Master Strength & Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa). Connors is in his third season as the Carolina football team's strength and conditioning coordinator.
The Master Strength & Conditioning Coach certification is the highest honor that can be achieved as a strength and conditioning coach, representing professionalism, knowledge, experience, expertise and longevity in the field.
"I've always thought he was the best in the business and now his peers have echoed my thoughts," said football coach John Bunting. "It's a great honor for Jeff and it's great to have this kind of teacher on our staff. Our football players know they are being taught by one of the the best strength and conditioning coaches in the country."
Connors was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director in 2002. He came to Carolina after spending 10 seasons as East Carolina's Director of Strength & Conditioning. In his first year at UNC, the Tar Heels outscored their opponents by 35 points in the second half.
A competitive powerlifter, Connors has won four powerlifting state titles and has been ranked as high as fourth nationally.
Connors graduated in 1980 from Salem (W.Va.) College where he was a four-year starter at cornerback. He served two years as a police officer in South Florida before becoming a strength and conditioning coach.
