Carolina Golfers In 20th Place At NCAA Championships

WEST LAFAYETTE, IND. - North Carolina's women's golf team fired a 317 in the second round for a 638 total and is in 20th place of the NCAA Championships. Scores were high again the second day as they were after the first round as Southern California held onto its lead over the 24 teams with a 32-over-par 608 total. Oklahoma State stands in second place with a 611 total while Pepperdine, which posted the day's low round of 298, is third at 613. Ohio State is fourth at 616 and Florida and Auburn are tied for fifth place with 620 totals.
Annie Thurman of Oklahoma State holds the individual lead with a three-over 147 total after carding rounds of 73-74. Kim Welch of Washington State is one stroke back at 148 after firing an even par 72 in the second round while Aimee Cho of Florida and Danielle Downey of Auburn are deadlocked in third place with 149 totals. A trio of players are tied for fifth place with 150 totals * Purdue's Kari Damron, Ohio State's Allison Hanna and Southern California's Mikaela Parmlid.
Carolina's Meaghan Francella is one of seven players deadlocked in a tie for eighth place at 151. Francella fired a second-round 74 to lead the Tar Heels while Ashley Prange posted a 78 for a 157 total and is tied for 39th place. Beth Marushak and Abby Spector posted 165 totals and are tied for 94th place while Meghan Adams is tied for 104th at 166.
The 72-hole event continues through Friday and is being played at Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex Kampen Course which features a par 72, 6,225-yard layout.
