UNC Women Golfers In 7th Place At NCAA East Regionals

CLEMMONS, N.C. -- The University of North Carolina Women's golf team is in seventh place, thirteen strokes behind first place Duke University, after the first round of the 2003 NCAA East Regional. The Tar Heels shot a 17 over par 301 team total. Only fifteen strokes separate the top 10 team. The top eight teams will advance along with the top two individual scorers who are not members of the top eight teams. Following Duke in second place is ACC rival Florida State at 290, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Auburn round out the top five with scores of 294, 295 and 298, respectively.
UNC golfer Meaghan Francella fired a two-under-par 69 which gives the Junior from Port Chester, New York sole possession of third place in individual scoring. Brandi Jackson of Furman University and Kristy McPherson of South Carolina lead the individual scoring battle after both shot rounds of three-under-68.
Other Tar Heels competing in the Regional include Ashley Prange who is just seven strokes off the lead after a round of 75, while Beth Marushak closed out the day at 78, Meghan Adams followed with a 79 and Abby Spector finished with an eleven-over-par 82.
