Tar Heels To Take On South Carolina In NCAA Super Regional

Chapel Hill, NC- The North Carolina baseball team will travel to Columbia, SC this weekend for a best-of-three series against the Gamecocks of South Carolina. The winner of this NCAA Super Regional will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
The Tar Heels were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament last season by South Carolina in the Columbia Regional. The Regional came down to a final and deciding game seven between UNC and the Gamecocks which South Carolina won by a score of 3-1. South Carolina made it all the way to the College World Series where they were the national runner-up.
UNC went 3-0 in Starkville, Miss. and defeated No. 1 seed and host, Mississippi State twice in two days to win its first regional in 14 years. The last time Carolina went to the College World Series was 1989, another season in which they won the Starkville Regional.
Game one of the Columbia Super Regional will begin on Friday at 3:05 p.m. at Sarge Frye Field and will be televised regionally by ESPN. Game two will be played on Saturday at 12:35 p.m. and televised nationally on ESPN2. The third and deciding game (if necessary) will be played at either 3:05 p.m. or 6:05 p.m. and will also be televised nationally on ESPN2.
