Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- With the addition of a state-of-the-art video scoreboard already in place, Kenan Stadium continues to improve as Carolina is currently replacing the old field surface and replacing it with new sod.
The process began last Sunday when workers spent 12 hours removing the old playing surface. On Monday and Tuesday, the remaining sand-based soil was tilled to allow air into the ground. The field will be graded on Wednesday and Sandhills Turf of Pinehurst will bring in new sod on Thursday. The sod is composed of tif sport bermuda grass, the exact same texture that was previously used. The new sod will take two days to lay completely across the playing surface and sidelines.
According to UNC Turf Manager Kevin Robinson, the new field will be watered frequently and will be ready for football practice, which begins on August 6.
