Chapel Hill, N.C. - University of North Carolina men's golf head coach John Inman and women's golf head coach Sally Austin announce the hiring of Don Hill to serve as Carolina's men's and women's golf assistant coach. Hill, a two-time All-ACC performer for the Tar Heel men's team (1995, 1997-99), has been working the past year with UNC's Educational Foundation as a graduate intern. Prior to that, he played on golf mini tours, 1999-2001. Hill will assist in the day-to-day operations of the men's golf program in addition to his on-course duties as coach and teacher.
"I'm extremely thrilled to have Don re-join our men's golf program," says Inman. "He was a senior on my first team here as a coach and represented our University extremely well as a player and will now do that as a coach. His playing ability will enhance his role as a teacher and he already has an innate ability to assess top talent."
"I'm very excited to have Don join our women's golf program as an assistant coach," says Austin. "He was a great player here and represented the University well. I know Don will contribute greatly to our program."
In addition to being an all-conference performer in 1998 and 1999, Hill was also an honorable mention All-America those two years. He was the runner-up in the 1998 ACC Championship, one stroke behind Clemson's Charles Warren, and finished 10th at the 1999 NCAA Championship. Hill posted 13 top-10 finishes during his four-year collegiate career and 23 top-25 finishes. He posted a 72.88 stroke average in 1997-98 and a 73.03 average in 1998-99.
"I Iook forward to working with Coach Inman and Coach Austin and all the players in the upcoming school year ," says Hill. "Having the opportunity to coach at UNC, where I played my collegiate golf, creates a special beginning for my coaching career."
Hill, from Mount Olive, N.C., and a four-year golf standout at Southern Wayne High School, graduated from Carolina with a bachelor of arts degree in communications.
