University of North Carolina Chancellor James Moeser and Director of Athletics Dick Baddour issued the following statements about Head Football Coach John Bunting following Carolina's football game vs. Duke:
"We have evaluated this team over the course of the season, and we are very pleased with the progress it had made. The staff and the players dealt with one of the toughest schedules in the country, and they've shown great resiliency and determination. Dick Baddour and I will immediately seek Board of Trustees' approval to award John Bunting a two-year contract extension."
--Chancellor James Moeser
"John Bunting's leadership has been instrumental in moving this Carolina football program in a winning direction. His staff and student-athletes have competed well this year against one of the toughest schedules in the nation and posted a number of outstanding wins. They have kept their composure in several adverse situations and maintained their focus on improving each game. We look forward to watching him lead the Tar Heels again in 2005 and for many years to follow."
