NFL Update: Week Eight

Former Tar Heel Dre' Bly came out with another impressive performance in the eighth week of the NFL. Bly had two interceptions, two pass deflections, and three tackles in the Detroits Lions' game against the Dallas Cowboys. He returned one of the interceptions for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Former Tar Heel tight end Alge Crumpler also played well in week eight. He led his team in receiving with seven catches for 86 yards to lead the Falcons to a 41-28 victory over the Denver Broncos. Crumpler averaged 12.3 yards per catch.
Michael Waddell led all efforts on special teams for the Titans in their 27-20 victory over the Cincinati Bengals. Waddell had four kickoff returns for an average of 24 yards, and returned three punts. He also had a fumble recovery on special teams.
Update on former Tar Heels in the NFL:
Sam Aiken, Buffalo Bills - Played at wide receiver in the Bills' 38-14 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
Ethan Albright, Washington Redskins - Played long snapper in the Redskins' 28-14 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Dre' Bly, Detroit Lions - Started at cornerback and had two interceptions, two pass deflections, three tackles, and a touchdown in the Lions' 31-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Alge Crumpler, Atlanta Falcons - Started at tight end and had seven receptions for 86 yards in the Falcons' 41-28 victory over the Denver Broncos.
Ronald Curry, Oakland Raiders - Played at wide receiver and had one tackle on special teams in the Raiders' 42-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers.
Russel Davis, Arizona Cardinals - Started at nose tackle and had two tackles in the Cardinals' 38-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Ebenezer Ekuban, Cleveland Browns - Open date
Greg Ellis, Dallas Cowboys - Started at defensive end and had one pass deflection in the Cowboys' 31-21 victory over the Detroit Lions.
William Henderson, Green Bay Packers - Started at fullback and had four receptions for 17 yards. He also made one tackle on special teams in the Packers' 28-14 victory over the Washington Redskins.
Sedrick Hodge, New Orleans Saints - Open date
Vonnie Holliday, Kansas City Chiefs - Played at defensive end in the Chiefs' 45-35 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Freddie Jones, Arizona Cardinals - Started at tight end and had one reception for eight yards in the Cardinals' 38-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills. He also made one tackle on special teams.
Keith Newman, Minnesota Vikings - Started at linebacker and had three tackles in the Vikings' 34-13 loss to the N.Y. Giants.
Willie Parker, Pittsburgh Steelers - Not active for week eight
Julius Peppers, Carolina Panthers - Started at defensive end and had three tackles in the Panthers' 23-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks
Jeff Reed, Pittsburgh Steelers - Started at kicker and made two field goals and one extra point in the Steelers' 34-20 victory over the New England Patriots.
Dexter Reid, New England Patriots - Played safety and had three tackles. He also made one tackle on special teams in the Patriots' 34-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jeff Saturday, Indianapolis Colts - Started at center and blocked for 33 yards of rushing and 472 yards of passing in the Colts' 45-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Brian Simmons, Cincinnati Bengals - Started at linebacker and had six tackles in the Bengals' 27-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Ryan Sims, Kansas City Chiefs - Played defensive tackle in the Chiefs' 45-35 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Jeb Terry, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Open Date
David Thornton, Indianapolis Colts - Started at linebacker and had three tackles. He also had one tackle on special teams in the Colts' 45-35 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Michael Waddell, Tennessee Titans - Played cornerback in the Titans' 27-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. He also returned four kickoffs for 96 yards, returned three punts, and had a fumble recovery on special teams.
Bracy Walker, Detroit Lions - Started at strong safety and had five tackles in the Lions' 31-21 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
