Tuesday's 93-65 victory over Vermont was Carolina's ninth in a row, marking its longest win streak since an 18-game run in the 2000-01 season. The Tar Heels have now won all three meetings with the Catamounts.
With 93 points against Vermont, Carolina has now scored at least 85 points in eight of its last nine games, including each of the last four. The Tar Heels have now scored 90 or more points six times in 10 games this season.
The Tar Heels held Vermont's Taylor Coppenrath, the nation's second-leading scorer, to just 13 points. Coppenrath entered the game averaging 26.8 points per outing, but Carolina kept the senior nearly 14 points below his season average and limited him to 6 of 15 shooting.
Carolina forced 23 Vermont turnovers and held the Catamounts to 39.7 percent shooting.
After holding just a 20-17 lead with 8:21 remaining in the first half, Carolina called a 30-second timeout. Following the break in the action, the Tar Heels went on to outscore the Catamounts 23-5 for the rest of the half and took a 43-22 advantage into intermission.
Junior Rashad McCants has now made a three-point field goal in 25 consecutive games. After scoring just three points and attempting a career-low four field goals against Virginia Tech, McCants rebounded with 19 points and four rebounds in the win over Vermont. He shot 6 of 13 from the floor and 2 of 6 from behind the arc.
Junior Sean May had a season-best 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and a 6 of 7 effort from the line. He added eight rebounds and three assists in the game. May is averaging four assists per game over the last four outings.
Senior Jawad Williams had 15 points and three rebounds on 6 of 9 shooting. Over the last four games, Williams is shooting 70.3 percent (26-37). He is the only Tar Heel to have scored in double figures in all 10 games this season.
Freshman Quentin Thomas scored a career-best five points on 2 of 2 shooting from the field and 1 of 2 from the foul line.
Ten different Tar Heels scored versus Vermont, including four in double figures - Sean May, Rashad McCants, Jawad Williams and Raymond Felton.
Junior Raymond Felton handed out seven assists and now has 513 in his career, the eighth most in Tar Heel history. He has at least seven assists in seven of the nine games he has played.
Senior Melvin Scott made his first start of the season.
