Tar Heels Split Doubleheader With Louisville

North Carolina split a doubleheader with Louisville on Sunday as the Tar Heels wrapped up their play in the OU/Nike Tournament. UNC won game one versus Louisville 4-3 and lost game two 13-3. Freshman outfielder Anna Evans and senior shortstop Emily Price powered the offense in the 4-3 win, as Evans scored two runs and Price had two runs batted in.
Sophomore pitcher Crystal Cox started game one and pitched three innings, letting off two runs. Junior Ashley Allen relieved Cox and pitched four innings allowing zero earned runs and earned the win. North Carolina went up 1-0 in the first inning after Price hit a RBI double to score Evans.
Louisville tied it up in the bottom of the first and scored again in the third to take a 2-1 lead. Joslin Higgins tied it up for UNC in the fourth inning, as she drove in Michelle Hoffmann with a single. Louisville took back the lead again in the fifth, to make it 3-2.
The Tar Heels responded with a two-run seventh inning as senior first baseman Dionne Streete doubled with one out an was followe by a walk to Evans. After a fielders choice made it two outs in the inning, Price came up with a clutch single to tie the game at three as Evans scored. UNC scored the winning run after senior infielder Jessica Graziano reached on an error that allowed junior outfielder Jessica Young to cross home plate.
In game two, Louisville got off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning but the Tar Heels battled back in the second to tie the game at three. The Cardinals continued their offensive prowess though, as they put the game away with back-to-back high scoring innings in the third and fourth.
The Tar Heels are now 6-6 on the season as they won three out of six at the OU/Nike Tournament. Carolina won the first two on Friday over Sam Houston State, but then fell twice to No. 4 Oklahoma on Saturday, leading to the split on Sunday against Louisville. UNC will next travel on Wednesday to take on Charlotte at 2 p.m.
