Tar Heels Split Doubleheader at Charlotte

Charlotte, N.C. - The North Carolina softball team split a doubleheader at Charlotte on Wednesday as the Tar Heels won game one 6-1 and lost game two 2-0. Senior Dionne Streete led the offensive charge in the first game as she went 3-3 with three runs batted in and two runs scored. Sophomore Crystal Cox pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs and striking out eight.
The Tar Heels scored in the first inning of game one, as Streete led off the inning with a single and scored on a Jessica Young base hit. UNC broke the game open in the second inning when Streete hit a base clearing double with the bases loaded. That made the score 4-0 and North Carolina finished off its scoring in the fourth inning when Natashalyn Snipes and Streete scored off of an error by the Charlotte shortstop.
Crystal Cox improved her record to 4-3, as she pitched seven innings with no earned runs and eight strikeouts.
In game two the Tar Heels were unable to get their offense going, as they were shutout for just the second time this season. Alison Yin pitched six innings, allowing two runs and six hits. The Tar Heels are now 7-7 on the season and will next host Mississippi in Chapel Hill on Feb. 28 and 29 at the UNC Softball Complex.
