The University of North Carolina gymnastics team is ranked No. 10 in the most recent NCAA rankings released March 8. It is the highest Carolina has ever been ranked according to available research. Carolina is the highest ranked team among schools that compete in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL).
Teams are ranked based on their regional qualifying score (RQS). To obtain the regional qualifying score (RQS), the highest score of the season is eliminated and the remaining highest five scores are averaged. Carolina's RQS is 196.840. UCLA is first with a RQS of 198.875.
Carolina is ranked first in the country on floor exercise with a score of 49.640. The Tar Heels are 13th on uneven bars (49.155), 14th on vault (49.225) and 26th on balance beam (48.980).
Individually, sophomore Courtney Bumpers is first in the nation on floor exercise, ninth in the all-around competition and tied for 19th on balance beam. Junior Olivia Trusty and freshman Christine Robella are tied for fifth on floor. Trusty is also ranked 23rd in the all-around and 25th on vault. Robella is also ranked 25th on uneven bars.
