Outstanding Third Round Gives UNC Women's Golf The Win At LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill women's golf team came from behind to win the 23rd LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., on Sunday. UNC senior Ashley Prange made it a Tar Heel sweep by holding her second-round lead and winning the individual title.
egining the day in fourth place and seven shots off the Tulane lead, Carolina shot two one-unders and an even par to go four-over 292 in its third round. UNC, ranked 23rd in Golf World's College Coaches Poll and 25th in Golfweek's Sagarin Rankings, totalled for a 39-over 903 to beat Tulane by three strokes and win in a field of 17 teams.
Tulane carded a 14-over in the third round to give it a total 42-over 906. Host school Louisiana State finished in third place with a total 49-over 913.
For the win in the individual race, Prange had her second consecutive one-under 71 in the third round to give her a total one-under 215 for the tournament. She was the only player to finish with a sub-par score.
Fellow senior Meaghan Francella climbed from a ninth-place tie to finish tied for third after shooting a third-round even par for a total seven-over 223. Francella is ranked 17th in the nation according to Golfweek's Sagarin Rankings.
South Carolina's Adrienne Gautreaux finished in second place with a third-round even par for a total two-over 218.
Freshman Katie Miller also carded a one-under 71 in the third round and tied for 10th place with a total 10-over 226. Miller went from 27th after the first round to 22nd after the second to a 10th place finish, improving her score with each round.
Other Tar Heel scores include sophomore Beth Marushak who tied for 50th with a third-round eight-over and a total 25-over 241; sophomore Romi Irons finished tied for 56th with a third-round six-over and total 27-over 243.
The LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic was played at The University Club, a 6,265-yard, par 72 course. The Tar Heels next visit Columbia, S.C., on March 12-14 for the Lady Gamecock Classic.
