No. 5 Tar Heels Get Eighth Consecutive Victory With Win Over No. 72 Loyola Marymount.

LOS ANGELES - The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill women's tennis team handled Loyola Marymount 6-1 on Sunday in Los Angeles, Calif., to extend its win streak to eight matches. The No. 5 Tar Heels (12-1) won the doubles point with a sweep and five of the singles matches over the No. 72 Lions (2-6).
In doubles play, UNC juniors Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline, ranked 25th nationally, beat Loyola Marymount's Carla Arguelles and Kimi Kaloi at the No. 1 seed 8-2. At the No. 2 seed, Tar Heel freshman Caitlin Collins and senior Kendrick Bunn blanked Serena Fermin and Patrycia Hubl 8-0. And at the No. 3 spot, Carolina freshmen Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long beat Jen Baker and Tamara Tanner 8-4.
Carolina singles seeds one through five all won in two sets. At number one, a 32nd ranked Mojzis beat Arguelles 6-1, 6-0. At number two, senior Lee Bairos beat Robyn Baker 6-0, 6-4. Cline got the three-seed win over Kaloi 6-2, 6-2. Collins beat Jen Baker 6-3, 6-2 at number four. Anundsen took the 5th seed over Hubl 6-1, 6-1. Long drew the sixth seed match to three sets against Fermin but went down 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
UNC will remain in Los Angeles to play No. 13 Southern California on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. P.S.T. Then the Tar Heels will go to Malibu, Calif., on Thursday to play No. 26 Pepperdine, also at 1:30 p.m. P.S.T.
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association will release new national team and individual rankings on Tuesday.
