GREENSBORO, N.C. - The 12-member 2004 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Team was announced on Thursday. The team features five representatives from Maryland, three apiece from Duke and Virginia and one from North Carolina. The team was selected by a vote of the league's four head coaches.
Virginia's Amy Appelt becomes the second Virginia player to be named ACC Player of the Year and the first since 1998. Appelt is currently leading the nation in scoring with 83 points and scored a hat trick in the first 13 games of the 2004 season. The junior is a nominee for the prestigious Tewaaraton Trophy.
Maryland's Mollie Reese was named this year's ACC Freshman of the Year. The midfielder notched eight goals and two assists for ten points on the season. Reese started in all of the Terrapins' 14 games and scooped up 23 ground balls.
Duke's Kerstin Kimel was selected this year's ACC Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. She led the Blue Devils to their first-ever No. 1 seed in this year's ACC Championship and the program's seventh consecutive 10+win season. Kimel owns a career record of 97-67, including a 93-59 record while at Duke.
