Carolina Tied For 16th Place At NCAA Championship

OPELIKA, Ala. - Carolina's women's golf team is tied for 16th place after firing a 304 in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Oklahoma State leads the field of 24 teams with an even par 288 total. Top-ranked Duke and UCLA are tied for second place at one-over-par 289. Ohio State is alone in fourth place at 296 while Wake Forest and Vanderbilt are tied for fifth place with 298 totals.
Teams battled tough conditions at the Grand National Lake Course, a par 72, 6,215-yard layout. Play was halted for lightning at 1:52 CST and resumed at 2:31 CST.
Allison Hanna of Ohio State grabbed the individual lead after firing a three-under 69. A trio of players are one stroke back at two-under 70 in a tie for second place * Alison Curdt of Florida State, Allison Fouch of Michigan State and Ashley Gomes of San Jose State. Five players are tied for fifth place at one-under 71.
For the Tar Heels, the two seniors led the way. Ashley Prange, from Noblesville, Ind., fired an even par 72 and is tied for 10th place while Meaghan Francella, from Port Chester, N.Y., fired a two-over 74 and is tied for 34th place. Beth Marushak, a sophomore from Northampton, Pa., fired a 78 and is tied for 83rd place while Romi Irons, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, and Katie Miller, a freshman from Jeannette, Pa., both carded an 80 and are tied for 105th place.
The 72-hole event continues through Friday at the Grand National Lake Course.
