SALEM, Va. - After leading the Tar Heels to the semifinal round for the first time since 1990, North Carolina's Garry Bakker, Sammy Hewitt, Marshall Hubbard and Chris Iannetta were named to the 2004 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball All-Tournament Team. Carolina tied champion Florida State with four all-tourney honorees.
akker was one of two pitchers named to the team after tossing his second career complete-game shutout in Carolina's 14-0 win over Maryland last Thursday. He allowed just five hits and struck out a season-best eight batters, while walking none.
Hewitt, Hubbard and Iannetta lead a Tar Heel offense that scored a combined 53 runs in five games. Hewitt batted .304 and drove in four runs, including the game-winner in the ninth against Clemson Friday night. Hubbard led the Tar Heels with 10 runs batted in and batted .429 with one home run. Iannetta led the team with a .435 average and three home runs. He drove in seven runs and scored seven more.
