Hubbard Claims Third All-America Honor

DENVER - North Carolina junior right fielder Marshall Hubbard picked up his third All-America honor of 2004 Tuesday, claiming second-team accolades from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. The Ashland, Va., native also earned first-team All-America honors from USA Today Sports Weekly and was named to the third team by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Playing his first year at Carolina after transferring from William & Mary, Hubbard led the Tar Heels with a .352 average, 17 homers and single-season school record 83 RBI. He also had 21 doubles, which ranks as the fifth-best single-season total in program history, and his 41 extra-base hits were the third most in Tar Heel history. Hubbard was also named first-team All-ACC and named to the all-tournament teams at the ACC Championship and the NCAA Columbia Regional.
Hubbard was an eighth round pick of the Seattle Mariners in last week's Major League Baseball First-year Player Draft.
