2004 NFL Update: Week Three

Action from week three of the NFL included an outstanding defensive performance by former Tar Heel David Thornton. Thornton started at linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts in their contest against the Green Bay Packers. He had a game-high ten tackles and also intercepted a pass to lead the Colts to a 45-31 victory. After Sunday's performance Thornton leads his team in tackles with 25 on the season.
Former two-sport athlete Ronald Curry, who now plays for the Oakland Raiders, caught a touchdown pass for the second consecutive week. In addition, he made two tackles on special teams to help the Raiders defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-20.
Curry's former teammate, kicker Jeff Reed, also had a big week. Reed started for the Pittsburgh Steelers and kicked two field goals and an extra point to help them defeat the Miami Dolphins 13-3. His longest field goal of the day was 51 yards.

Ethan Albright, Washington Redskins - played long snapper in the Redskins' 21-18 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
Dre' Bly, Detroit Lions - not active for week three (injured)
Alge Crumpler, Atlanta Falcons - started at tight end and had two receptions for 34 yards in the Falcons' 6-3 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Ronald Curry, Oakland Raiders - played wide receiver and had one reception for 19 yards and a touchdown. Also had two tackles on special teams in the Raiders' 30-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Russell Davis, Arizona Cardinals -- started at defensive tackle and had three tackles and one sack in the Cardinals' 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Ebenezer Ekuban, Cleveland Browns - started at defensive end and had four tackles and one sack in the Browns' 27-10 loss to the N.Y. Giants.
Greg Ellis, Dallas Cowboys - started at defensive end and had five tackles and two sacks in the Cowboys' 21-18 victory over the Washington Redskins.
ernardo Harris, Baltimore Ravens - Free Agent
William Henderson, Green Bay Packers - played fullback and had two receptions for 20 yards. Also had one tackle on special teams and two kickoff returns for 20 yards in the Packers' 45-31 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Vonnie Holliday, Kansas City Chief - not active for week three
Freddie Jones, Arizona Cardinals - started at tight end and had two receptions for eleven yards and one tackle in the Cardinals' 6-3 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
Keith Newman, Minnesota Vikings - started at linebacker and had seven tackles in the Vikings' 27-22 victory over the Chicago Bears.
Willie Parker, Pittsburgh Steelers - not active for week three
Julius Peppers, Carolina Panthers - open date for Panthers
Jeff Reed, Pittsburgh Steelers - started at kicker and kicked a 40-yard and 51-yard field goal. Also kicked one extra point in the Steelers' 13-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins.
Dexter Reid, New England Patriots - open date for Patriots
Jeff Saturday, Indianapolis Colts - started at center and blocked for 60 yards rushing and 393 yards passing in the Colts' 45-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers
rian Simmons, Cincinnati Bengals - started at linebacker and had four tackles and one forced fumble in the Bengals' 23-9 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Ryan Sims, Kansas City Chiefs - started at defensive tackle and had two tackles in the Chiefs' 24-21 loss to the Houston Texans.
Jeb Terry, Tampa Bay Buccaneers - not active for week three
David Thornton, Indianapolis Colts - started at linebacker and had one interception, one pass deflection, and a game high of 10 tackles in the Colts' 45-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Michael Waddell, Tennessee Titans - played cornerback and had one tackle in the Titans' 15-12 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
racey Walker, Detroit Lions - started at strong safety and had five tackles and two passes deflected in the Lions' 30-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
