TORONTO - Former Carolina All-America Russ Adams' trip to the Major Leagues has been shorter than most. Drafted by the Toronto organization just two years ago, Adams made his Blue Jay debut last week, got his first career start Sunday and hit his first career home run. In his first six at-bats, Adams is batting .500 with the home run and three runs batted in. After singling off Oakland closer Octavio Dotel in his first MLB at-bat last Friday, Adams started at shortstop against the Athletics Sunday. He went 2-for-5 from the leadoff spot, including a solo home run in the fifth off Justin Duchscherer. Adams also drove in two more runs with a single and reached base three times on Oakland errors. Adams, who was called up to Toronto last Thursday, is the 42nd Tar Heel to reach the Majors. Adams starred in Chapel Hill from 2000-02 and batted .344 for his career with eight home runs and 115 RBI. He earned first-team All-America honors from Baseball America in 2002 after batting .370 with seven homers and 55 RBI.
