It's the oldest football rivalry in the South and it's coming to Chapel Hill this weekend. Virginia invades Kenan Stadium for a 12 noon kickoff Saturday in a very important Atlantic Coast Conference game for both teams. The game kicks off a stretch of four home games in five weeks for the Tar Heels.
To celebrate the first home league game of the season, a variety of activities are planned in Chapel Hill. The game has been designated News & Observer Youth Day, which means youth groups of 10 or more can purchase tickets for $10 apiece. The special price can only be obtained by calling 800-722-HEEL. Response to the Youth Day promotion has been brisk.
"We're thrilled with the News & Observer Youth Day sales so far," associate athletic director Norwood Teague said. "The response has been phenomenal throughout the state. I'm looking forward to a great crowd."
Several activities are planned for the crowd. Tar Heel Town will open at 9:30 a.m. and because of Youth Day will have even more activities for the kids than usual, plus the usual face-painting, food, and fun.
The game will also feature a very special addition--a flyover by four F-15C Eagle fighter jets just before kickoff. The lead jet will be piloted by Maj. Brent "Wrench" Allen, UNC class of 1994.
The Old Well Walk will begin at 9:45 a.m.
