UNC Swimmers Win Seven Events At Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina swimmers won seven of 10 events Friday night during the 29th annual Tar Heel Invitational at the Maurice J. Koury Natatorium. UNC's men won both relays on the docket and five other individuals won one event each.
North Carolina's men's 200-yard freestyle relay touched first in 1:26.83. That winning unit included Harrison Browning, Yi-Khy Saw, Bradley Mitchell and Aaron Burns. The first three Tar Heels on that relay are freshman while junior Aaron Burns swam the anchor leg. The successful 200-yard medley relay won in a time of 1:36.22 and it was an all-senior class squad of Jon Albrecht, Patrick Woodruff, Chad Ames and Jon Van Assen.
Both of UNC's women's relays finished in the No. 2 spot. Individually, freshman Whitney Sprague was the winner of the 1650-yard freestyle (16:36.87), sophomore transfer Taylor McFarlane won the 400-yard individual medley (4:28.81) and sophomore Kelsey Morrissy was the 50-yard freestyle winner at 24.07. McFarlane transferred to Carolina from Miami and will not be eligible until the 2006-07 season. She swam Friday night as a representative of the North Carolina Aquatic Club.
Carolina's men won two of the three individual events. Freshman Yi-Khy Saw won the 400 IM in 4:02.65 and sophomore Zach Swartz captured the 50 free in 21.48.
