No. 4 Northwestern Edges No. 9 Tar Heels 4-3

EVANSTON, Ill. - In a battle between two top 10 teams, the ninth-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team fell 4-3 to fourth-ranked Northwestern Saturday afternoon. Though Carolina dropped the doubles point, it took three points against a Northwestern team that features the No. 1 singles player and No. 1 doubles team in the country.
The Wildcats improve to 8-1. Carolina falls to 8-3 on the season, but will be back in action on Sunday at 10 am against Notre Dame.
At No. 2 doubles, sophomores Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long extended their record to 21-4 with the Tar Heels' only doubles win, beating Prousis/Roemer 8-3. Anundsen and Long are 10-1 in dual-season play.
After UNC fell at No. 3 doubles, the point was decided at the No. 1 seed, where 14th-ranked Aniela Mojzis and Kendall Cline gave a valiant effort, but fell 8-5 to the top doubles team in the country, Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier.
Carolina and Northwestern split the singles' points, with UNC taking three wins at the No. 2, 3 and 6 seeds. At No. 2, 37th-ranked Cline upset Northwestern's Cristelle Grier, ranked fourth, in a three-set battle, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5. Cline has won her last five matches, four of which have been against ranked opponents.
At No. 3 singles, Long defeated #49 Alexis Prousis, 6-4, 6-4. Long is 21-4 on the season and 9-2 in dual-match play.
At No. 6, freshman Charlotte Tansill continued her dominating play, defeating Alexis Conill in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Tansill has won her last four singles matches and is 16-7 on the season.
