CHAPEL HILL -- The University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team will open its 2005 Atlantic Coast Conference schedule on Saturday when it visits Duke at noon at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Tar Heels, winners of four straight games, are 4-1 this season after dropping their season-opener to No. 3 Northwestern on Feb. 20.
Carolina (4-1) is ranked No. 8 in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll for the second consecutive week. Duke (5-0) is ranked No. 4.
The Tar Heels have defeated Temple, George Mason, No. 9 Loyola and Mount St. Mary's since losing to Northwestern. Duke has defeated Duquesna, Denver, No. 7 Maryland, William & Mary and Richmond this season.
Saturday's game is a Carlyle Cup event worth one point in the annual multisport competition between the two rivals. UNC currently leads Duke, 10.5 to 5.5, in the standings.
After Saturday's game, the Tar Heels will host New Hampshire on Wednesday, March 16 at 1 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
